ASTM A516-70 Plate As Rolled

ASTM A516 Grade 70 Plate is also called out as ASME SA516-70.  This steel plate grade is a medium carbon alloy that also contains amounts of manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, and silicon. A516 is primarily used for service in welded pressure vessels where improved notch toughness is required. It is typically found in moderate and lower temperature applications. A516 is sometimes called PVQ516.
Supplementary testing such as Charpy Impacts, Ultrasonic Examination and Carbon Equivalency are available. All plates over 1-1/2" Thick are required to be normalized.  A516 is the most popular Pressure Vessel grade of steel plate in the industry. It is produced in grades 55, 60, 65 or 70.  The most common is Grade 70 or called out A516-70.
