Properties
6150 is typically bought to meet chemistry requirements rather than physical requirements. For that reason, physical properties are generally not provided unless requested prior to production. Any material can be sent to a third party after production to be tested for physical properties.
Typical Uses
- Arbors
- Heavy Machinery Parts
- Gears, Shafts
- High Strength Studs
- Pinions
- Spindles

6150 Hot Rolled Decarb Free Annealed Steel
AISI 6150 - Annealed HR/DCF (Hot Rolled/Decarb Free), is an electric furnace melt of chrome vanadium steel possessing the following characteristics: oil-hardening, high resistance to vibratory stress, standard deformation, medium hardness, high torque strength and bright polish.
6150 steel is similar to 5150, but has the addition of vanadium, which provides greater hardness. AISI 6150 has low distortion properties and accepts heat treating easily. Welding may be done, but the material requires proper preheating and post weld stress relieving.
About Decarb Free (DCF) Steel
Decarb free is steel material that has been ground on both top and bottom. It is oversized to finish on the thickness, or in the case of rounds, on the diameter.
