Properties
O-6 is typically bought to meet chemistry requirements rather than physical requirements. For that reason, physical properties are generally not provided unless requested prior to production. Any material can be sent to a third party after production to be tested for physical properties.
Typical Uses
Typical Applications of O-6 include Blanking Dies, Piercing Dies, Drawing Dies, Pneumatic Hammers, Forming Dies, Spinning Tools, Punches, Stamps, Gauges, Wear Plates, Cams and Rotary Slitting Cutters.

Oil Hardening Flat Ground Stock (FGS) Tool Steel

The flat ground stock version of O-6 Tool Steel provides all the benefits of standard O-6 steel, with the addition of being ground to a fine finish so it arrives ready to machine. O-6 is an oil-hardening cold work steel which has outstanding machinability. This is the result of small particles of graphitic carbon that are uniformly distributed throughout the steel. These particles increase resistance to wear and galling in service. The graphite also aids in holding oil used in lubrication. For an oil-hardening steel, 06 holds size well during heat treating.
