About Aluminum Cast Tool and Jig Plates
Alro stocks aluminum cast tool and jig plates under the trade name MIC6. Each of these is produced from a very fine-grain aluminum alloy that is free from internal stresses. These plates are known for being internally stable, assuring minimum movement during machining. Tool and Jig plate is a machined product, with flat surfaces and a surface finish equal to 32 micro-inches or better on both sides (top and bottom). It is readily machined with minimal distortion. Using proper aluminum machining methods, tolerances in the thousandths can be maintained. Sometimes referred to as CT&J Plate, these products are machine finished top and bottom to very tight tolerances and are the optimum choice when an application requires tight dimension control and flatness. Because they are aluminum, these plates are approximately one-third as heavy as steel plate, which usually eliminates the need for heavy handling equipment for installation or set up, and reduces the load on ways and screws. It is highly resistant to corrosion, so it requires no protective treatment. After the tool is obsolete, Aluminum Tool and Jig plate has a higher salvage value than Steel Tool and Jig Plate. Cast Aluminum Tool and Jig Plate is used where minimal machining distortion along with flatness is required, but strength is not a requirement. This material is non-heat treatable. Cast Aluminum Tool and Jig Plate has an electrical conductivity of 36% of copper.
